This year Drew’s all-female acapella group On a Different Note turned 25 years old and they celebrated at their annual Jamnation concert on November 10. At 8 p.m. the Concert Hall flooded with students, parents, alumni and community members to hear Drew’s a cappella groups perform as well as celebrate OADN’s birthday. Tour and gig coordinator Siobhan Quinlan (‘19) said, “Being a part of OADN in its 25th year fills me with a sense of community! Knowing that there have been so many girls that came before me who have poured their heart and soul into this group to help make it what it is today is such a humbling feeling.” All three groups gave an amazing performance, but all eyes were on OADN on their special day. Of the group Alexarae Rizzo (‘19) said, “OADN has always been an incredibly talented group of people, but their energy seems totally different this year in the best of ways. Their sets and arrangements have been amazing. I always love watching them perform. Happy birthday OADN!”

At every concert, each of the acapella groups choose a theme to design costumes around. All of the Above, the coed a capella group, had a “Miscellaneous” theme which caused a bit of confusion amongst audience members. Adam Oppegaard (‘19) said, “At first I was really confused by AOTA’s attire, but once I realized what their theme was I thought they got really creative with it.” One of the members, Grace Viveiros (‘21), dressed as Dobby the elf while another dressed as a Domino. 36 Madison Avenue’s theme was dating websites. Some of their best costumes were Michael Galioto (‘19) who was dressed as Pounced, the dating website for Furries, and Ty Once (‘21) who was dressed in a Bumble costume. Ben Schneider (‘19) really committed to his Tinder character, which generated a lot of laughs from the crowd. OADN’s Broadway Musical theme was a fan favorite. Rizzo said, “The best costumes were OADN–I like how they interacted with the audience as the characters they played.” Tiffany Thompson (‘20) was dressed as a classic Mary Poppins, and she looked, to quote the movie, “practically perfect in every way.” Quinlan who portrayed Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz, had a wand and brought out a bubble machine.

In addition to it being their 25th Anniversary, OADN will also go on a winter tour this year. In order to raise money they are selling T-shirts for $10–check their Facebook page or talk to your favorite member of OADN for more information. The group has also been granted the amazing opportunity to sing at Radio City Music Hall on December 3. “We are all so excited and still sort of in shock that we will be opening the Christmas Spectacular! This is truly something many of us have dreamed about our whole lives, so the fact that this is actually happening is so incredible,” Quinlan stated. “It still hasn’t fully sunk in to be honest, because if it did, I don’t think I’d be able to sleep at night from all the excitement!”
