Tennis Faces Tough Competition in South Carolina

The Drew University men’s and women’s tennis teams kicked off their spring break trip with a match against Lebanon Valley College on Sunday, March 4. The Ranger men posted a 7-2 victory, whereas the women dropped a 7-2 decision against the Dutchmen.

The men dominated singles play with a 5-1 record, and notched victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. On the women’s side, the Rangers emerged victorious in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches.

The Ranger men returned to the court the next day, with a match against Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Rangers emerged victorious after an extremely tight match, with a score of 5-4. The Rangers held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, and concluded singles play with a score of 3-3.

With their third match in three days, the Ranger men suffered their first loss of their season against Eastern Nazarene College on Match 6. After a 2-1 score during doubles play and a 6-0 sweep of singles play by the Lions, the Rangers fell to Eastern Nazarene with a score of 8-1.

The Rangers returned to the court after a short break, with both the men’s and women’s teams playing against Heidelberg University on Thursday, March 8. Both teams emerged triumphant, as the men posted a perfect 9-0, and the women posted a dominant 8-1 to secure themselves the victory. With a 6-0 sweep of the singles matches and a 2-1 score in the doubles matches, there was no doubting the Ranger women’s dominance. On the men’s side, the Rangers posted a 5-1 sweep of the singles matches, while also winning the No.1 and No. 2 doubles.

The Ranger women returned to the court to conclude the final match of their spring break trip, with a match against Roanoke College. After emerging victorious in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the Rangers were unable to come away with a victory due to a 6-0 sweep of singles matches by Roanoke, and endured a 2-7 loss.

After a long break, the Rangers return to the court on March 22, where both the men’s and women’s teams will face-off against Rutgers-Newark at home.
