Drew’s softball team returned to action this week as they tried to follow up on their successful trip to Fort Myers, Florida over spring break. First year Head Coach Erica Mehalick and her girls were riding a high as they entered conference play with a winning record for the first time in this reporters career at Drew. However, the reality of Landmark Conference play would soon rain on the Rangers’ parade.
The Elizabethtown Blue Jays scored 17 runs on the Rangers, beating them by scores of 8-0 in the first game and 9-1 in the second of the doubleheader. In the first game, E-Town’s Alyssa Wilkinson threw a no-hitter against the Rangers and cruised to her sixth win of the season. While the Blue Jays threw up zeros in the field, their bats put up the crooked numbers when asked. They were able to tally 11 hits, with Sarah Personette providing the exclamation point with a three run home run in the fifth. The second game did see the Rangers score a run, but it also saw the Blue Jays score nine as the Rangers dropped their double header.
The latest Ranger loss came against non-conference opponent Rutgers-Newark. The Rangers did go the right way in the run column as they were able to plate five, but they gave up 11 in their fourth straight loss.
The Rangers are back in action on March 25 against the Catholic University Cardinals right here at Drew University. Hopefully they can recapture their winning ways.
